English Language Learners (ELL)
English language learners are students who did not learn English as their first language. They also do not understand English well enough to be at or close to grade level. English will not be the language spoken at home.There are two different types of ELL students.
According to Alberta Education:
Canadian-born (code 303) ELL students include First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Francophones, Hutterites, Mennonites and Canadian-born children of immigrants.
Foreign-born (code 301) ELL students include recently arrived immigrants, refugees and fee-paying and funded international visa students.
